Make the most of your 20s

I know, I know. It's been a long time since I blogged, but hey, what can I say. With the holidays and last minute to-dos at work, it's been almost impossible for me to find the time to sit and collect my thoughts. So here's my latest posting, quickly assembled to satiate your thirts.

So, I'm going to be turning 26 next year. I can't help but wonder how productive my 20s have been so far. Up until now, I had been given a guide of how to live life. Go to school and excel, and it'd all fall in line. Having done that, what next? Where's the guide for life after college? How do I make the most of my 20s. Here are some things I think are important to keep in mind as we navigate through our 20s.

1. Take Risks
This is the best time of your life to take risks. We're no longer under the control of our parents, and not yet tied down with responsibilities. The bigger the risks you take, the greater the potential rewards. Invest in startup businesses, follow your dreams, switch jobs a couple of times, ask your good looking co-worker out.

2. Get to know influential people
I wrote about the importance of knowing people earlier, and you can reference that to learn more. However, it's important to know people, particularly inflential people. It just makes life easier. How do you do this...get up off that couch and get out.

3. Travel
Traveling just opens up you mind and allows it to breathe. You're able to see the World on a grander scheme, and it helps you realize just how small you and your problems are. It also exposes you to all sorts of people, which helps your creative side.

4. Have fun
You're only young once. Having fun keeps you feel young

5. Setup a plan for your 30's
"Success always comes when preparation meets opportunity". Your 20s should be spent getting ready for your 30s. When you get to your 30s, you should be settled, and trying to master some of what you've learned in your 20s.

Make the most of this time you have.

it seems life moves so fast in the 20's and before you know it you are few years away from 30's and wondering what on earth you did with those years.
your tips makes a whole lot of sense.

Honestly Bola, I'm still feeling thirsty after this post. The tips are very vague and seem to be directed at a small group of people in their twenties. I could be wrong about that, but 99% of the people in their twenties I know seem tied to real responsibilities. They might dream of starting up a business, but making it a reality is the biggest obstacle. They might want to travel, but finding the time away from work, and the money with which to travel are two common problems. And these days, you might want to leave a current position, but be prepared for unemployment for an undetermined period of time. You're definitely right about having to take risks, especially since the situations are as bleak as I've just described for us 20 something year olds. I guess in the end, discovering which risks are worth taking is going to be the key piece to the puzzle known as our twenties.

I was hoping for some ideas, which was the point of my comment, but I guess I have the wrong idea about what this blogging stuff is about. Even still, I'm big on Oprah and here is what I read on her sight today that might help us out in making the most of our 20s.

"True happiness comes when you "do" what you're most passionate about. You have gifts to give to the world. So, what's holding you back? Break through your fear, overcome your obstacles, and start pursuing your passion today with steps from Life coach Cheryl Richardson.

Choose One Idea to Pursue
Don't let having too many ideas keep you from taking action. There are no "perfect" ideas, so just start somewhere. If you feel like you're still looking for your passion, follow these five steps.

Brainstorm
Because it's easy to feel creatively blocked or paralyzed by fear, one of the best ways to overcome your obstacles is to call upon the wisdom of others in a brainstorming session. Learn how to brainstorm and see how three women overcame their obstacles with this exercise.

Find Encouragement
Put an insurance policy in place by finding two or three people to encourage and support your efforts. Turn to these people when you feel afraid, frustrated, resigned or excited about your progress! When you feel afraid (and you will) find support. Follow six steps to create a Passion Support Group.

Take the Leap
Once you have an idea and a plan of action, it's time to do something immediately. Take one step towards your passion right now. Sign up for a class, write a poem, find a mentor or schedule a brainstorming group today. Write down your goals in your journal.
